Pearl Elizabeth McClaskey moved to Oregon in 1954.

She married Glen T.  Down in July of 1965.  Uncle Glen died: April 16, 1986.

Surviving Family includes children:
Rita Homer, Karen Jackson, Sharon Martin, Florence Atkinson, & Ronald Horton, & step-son, William Down.  Also surviving Pearl E. Down are a lot of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pearl Elizabeth Down

Pearl Elizabeth Down, 85, of Silverton, died October 10, 2001.  She was born October 28, 1915 in Matheson, Colorado to John Robert and Cordelia Jane McClaskey.  She was the third of six children.

Pearl worked as a maid in Atchin, Kansas. She came to Silverton in 1954.  She was married to Charles Horton, Paul Weaver and Glen Down.  All preceded her in death.  She had nine children.  Survivors are children, Ron Horton, Mollala and Salem, Reta Homer, Silverton, Karen Jackson, Silverton, Sharon Martain, Silverton, and Forence Atkinson of Woodburn/Monitor area, step-daughter, Barbara Down, Klamath Falls, sisters Emeline Schidigger of Holton, Kansas and Alice Lorene Lead of Raymond, WA., half-sisters, Mary Francis DeGuzman of Bellingham, Washington, and Lucille, Tacoma, Washington., many nieces, nephews, and grand children, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Pearl liked cooking, taking care of her children, knick-knacks and garage sales, having coffee and just visiting with others.  Glenn and Pearl organized and held the Swap Meet years ago in the old Sentry building area.  Pearl lived in Molalla for many years and moved to Silverton after Glenn passed away in 1986.

Private services were held at Millers Cemetery Church on October 16, 2001 followed by a graveside service.  She will rest next to her husband Glenn Down.

What a wonderful and informative web site you’ve created! I’ve been in this family for nearly 53 years, and didn’t know half of this information. Aunt Lil and Aunt Pearl were very dear to me. I will never forget their kindnesses when I was a young girl. I still remember how handsome my boy cousins were and how beautiful my girl cousins were–and still are! ! The best years of my life was when we went to Silverton for the summer, when I was a kid! My aunts and uncles always had the “open door” policy, and always made us welcome–even when we arrived in the middle of the night! They were some real good people–and their kindnesses will never be forgotten.

Thank you so much for making such a wonderful wed page for Aunt Pearl.  My Mom, Alice Lead is Aunt Pearl’s sister.  My name is Jerry and I am the seventh child in our family.  I know that each and everyone of my brothers and sisters are going to be thrilled with this page.  My Mom has been living in a nursing home for several months now.  She took the news of Aunt Pearl’s death pretty hard.  Aunt Pearl actually raised my Mom.  I don’t have much family history to share with you but I’m sure my older sisters and brother do.  I would not be one bit surprised if most all of them don’t contact you.  The thing I think I will always remember most about Aunt Pearl is how funny she was.  She and Uncle Glen always seems to have such a good time together and I can still remember how sad it was when he died.  It has been probably over 30 years since I’ve seen any of the relatives from Oregon.  I do have allot of fond memories of being little and living near Aunt Pearl and Aunt Lil’s families.  I also was born in Eureka, California.  My Mom’s mind is still pretty sharp and she can remember lots of things from the past so if there is anything that you want to know I will be happy to ask her for you.  She has real short term memory loss and can’t remember what she ate for breakfast but she can remember back 60 years ago or longer.  She is 79 and her health is not good at all.  Again, thank you so much for this wonderful web page.  I will look forward to coming back and looking at it over and over again.
